Datamyne is a top-ranked provider of international trade data headquartered in Miami. Datamyne offers online access to the world’s largest searchable database covering the import export trade of some 50 countries, including US trade with the world. Its clients use this data to identify and gauge market opportunities, locate and qualify sources of supply, and outmaneuver their competitors. Datamyne has been a client of MTM LinguaSoft for several years, so it was natural for them to turn to us when they wanted website translation in Spanish for Latin America and Brazilian Portuguese to attract more Latin American clients for their services.
The website was built on the popular platform WordPress. MTM LinguaSoft has successfully handled the translation of several WordPress-based sites in addition to our own site. Details on some other sample WordPress translation projects are available on our website.
Particular challenges in the Datamyne project included the following:
- Localizing graphic sliders on the home page was complicated by the fact that the translated text was usually much longer than the original English text. This was addressed with a combination of reformatting and editing the translated text while preserving the heart of the message.
- The site uses a WordPress plug-in called Pods, which permits the creation of all kinds of custom content types and fields. This complicated extraction and reimport of text because much of the page content was distributed among these custom content modules instead of being accessible from the page editor.
- Also using Pods, sample data on countries is fed from a database into particular fields in the website. This required translation and reimport of the field labels, which were in a separate area, as well as the localization of currency data into the proper format.
