To improve programs for the large non-English-speaking communities using its 60 branches, the Brooklyn Public Library System launched a project to survey various communities, in their own languages, about their needs. MTM LinguaSoft provided all translation and consecutive interpretation services in Chinese, Haitian Creole, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. Information about the project was disseminated using flyers and letters translated into the various languages. Next, a successful series of focus groups in each language were convened at the library. The project concluded with phone surveys of area residents in all of the languages.
