HTH Worldwide helps world travelers confidently find, access and pay for quality healthcare services all around the world. Its innovative services and technology make HTH a global leader in medical assistance.
HTH Worldwide came to MTM LinguaSoft to complete localization work for a mobile tool it was expanding. The tool, part of an iOS and Android app, allows travelers to translate useful health-related phrases and terms from and into 12 different languages – complete with audio recordings and transliterations to aid pronunciation. HTH Worldwide needed a quality review of their existing translations and a company that could handle a complex data structure of over 10,000 terms and phrases. They also needed the project completed in an accelerated timeframe.
MTM LinguaSoft was asked to review the translation work that had already been done and provide additional translation, transliteration and voice recordings in the 12 languages. Tracking the project was a real challenge for the project manager, not only because the volume of terms and phrases, but also because some languages require more than one version of a phrase depending upon the gender of the speaker or of the person referred to in the phrase.
The project spanned 4 months and required coordinating, not only linguists for each of the 13 non-English languages involved, but also 23 voice artists. All of the work was completed to the customer’s satisfaction allowing final development of the app which provides translation into and from Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
The updated app, mPassport, for iPhone and iPad is available from iTunes. In addition to the translations, it has plenty of other useful information for travelers, including locators for nearby doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals.
