Technical Translation/Software Localization
Technology firm Devon IT is an ongoing client of MTM LinguaSoft and a leading provider of virtual desktop solutions, including “thin clients” (computers that act as terminals for a single main server) and supporting software. Over the past several months, MTM LinguaSoft has handled localization of software and supporting materials for Devon IT’s DeTOS Echo thin client management software and as well as its VDI Blaster, software that can turn an old computer into a thin client terminal.
This large volume project included translation of administrative guides, user interface and error message text, and HTML help files in eight European and Asian languages, plus testing and ongoing updates for new versions of the software. Translation memories were maintained to ensure consistency and to speed turnaround time.
Portuguese to English Translation
MTM LinguaSoft recently handled a technical translation job that was a good reminder that involvement in international markets doesn’t just involve translating your English materials into other languages. One of our customers, a leading manufacturer of speciality metals, which is breaking into the Brazilian market, also needed to understand various Brazilian requirements. We handled the translation of a lengthy document from Brazilian Portuguese into English The document dealt with the conditions and process for registration of suppliers of goods and services to the electronuclear industry in Brazil.
Doing business abroad often means having to understand important order specifications, legal documents, financial reports and other documents that are not available in English. Other clients have asked us to translate articles written about them, or about issues of interest, into English from a variety of languages. Communication is always a two-way street.
Website Translation (Word Press)
Here’s another example of a successful website translation project, this time involving WordPress. A marketing and design firm hired MTM LinguaSoft when their client Synergex, a specialty chemical company, wanted to create versions of its website specifically for the Latin American market. The site had been built using WordPress, the content management system (CMS) that was originally developed for the creation of blogs, but which has become the CMS of choice for many business websites. Working through WordPress, MTM LinguaSoft extracted, translated, and reintegrated the content into new Spanish- and Portuguese-language Word Press sites.
Elearning Localization
Another area of expertise for MTM LinguaSoft is elearning localization. A major chemical company recently retained MTM LinguaSoft to translate several on-line training modules into Brazilian Portuguese. The modules were created using the popular e-learning authoring tool ToolBook. MTM LinguaSoft was recommended to the company by the software developer, who had knowledge of our specific expertise in localizing modules created in ToolBook. The courses translated so far deal with issues in global business conduct such as: conflict of interest; personal conduct; reporting integrity; fraud awareness; and antitrust.

Website Translation
Our featured project this month is one example of our website translation services. An interactive marketing agency came to MTM LinguaSoft when the agency’s client Fujirebio Diagnostics wanted an informational website translated for foreign audiences. The site, which related to its innovative ovarian cancer test is aimed at healthcare professionals, as well as patients and caregivers, and contains a great deal of specialized terminology. We also translated the content and voiceover script of a Flash presentation about the product that is linked to the website. The initial translations were into French and Italian, followed shortly by translations into Spanish and German.
